Barry John Aird – repeatedly struck, punched and kicked a French bulldog, causing injuries from which he would not recover; second dog also put to sleep.

Barry Aird, a self-employed car valeter who has links to many different parts of the West of Scotland including Paisley in Renfrewshire and the Knightswood and Tollcross areas of Glasgow, caused significant suffering to two dogs, including a French bulldog called Pablo.

The court heard that Aird repeatedly struck, punched and kicked Pablo on July 24, 2024.

Scottish SPCA inspectors assisted Police Scotland with the enquiry and took two dogs into their care.

But the animals later had to be put down because of their behaviour and ill health.

Speaking about the case, a Scottish SPCA spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, both dogs were suffering significantly with numerous health issues and a veterinary decision was made to euthanise them on welfare grounds.”

Sentencing | 180 hours of unpaid work; 12-month supervision order. Banned from owning dogs for 10 years (expires October 2035).
