π Summary
Ashley Ingleby, 39, from Bramley in Leeds, violently attacked his pregnant partner as she prepared to go to hospital to give birth to their daughter. Ingleby became paranoid that she would leave him and launched a brutal assault β grabbing her by the throat, biting her hand, and kicking her in the stomach while she was 36 weeks pregnant. He told her, “You will be better off dead.”
The victim managed to escape and report the incident to police with help from a midwife. A subsequent search of Ingleby’s home uncovered a homemade knuckle duster. He was charged with strangulation and possession of a weapon. Charges of ABH and coercive control were left on file.
Despite having no previous convictions for violence, the court deemed the assault too serious for anything other than custody. He was sentenced to 15 months in prison and issued a 7-year restraining order.
