❌ASH GETTY – NELSON❌
Padiham man who strangled woman given suspended sentence
Ashley Getty, 33, of Dean Street, Padiham, has been sentenced after admitting to strangling a woman in a domestic abuse incident.
Getty initially denied the offence at a plea hearing last year, with a trial scheduled to begin in May. However, he later changed his plea to guilty in March, and sentencing took place on Thursday (June 19).
The court handed him a two-year prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, and ordered him to complete 40 rehabilitation activity days aimed at addressing offending behaviour. A 10-year restraining order was also imposed to protect the victim from further contact.
During the proceedings, the court was made aware of the serious nature of the assault, which involved intentional strangulation. The case highlights ongoing concerns about domestic abuse and the legal measures in place to both punish offenders and safeguard victims.
The sentencing reflects the balance between rehabilitation and public protection, while ensuring the victim has legal protection through the long-term restraining order.
