A man from Hamilton has been made subject to a two-year non-harassment order following court proceedings relating to the abuse of a woman he met when she was a teenager.

The woman met Alasdair Greens when she was 17 years old and he was 26. She has said he manipulated her into believing he loved and cared for her, while subjecting her to sustained psychological abuse during the relationship.

The abuse later escalated into a physical assault, which led to police involvement and subsequent court action. Following the case, the court imposed a two-year non-harassment order, legally preventing Mr Greens from contacting or approaching the woman.

The woman has since said that police officers advised her to consider using Clare’s Law, a scheme that allows individuals to request information about a partner’s previous history of domestic abuse. She did not pursue the disclosure at the time but has stated she believes the behaviour was not an isolated incident.
