A woman who brutally assaulted and killed her own dog while a group of playing children looked on has been jailed for more than three years.

Aija Cernevica launched the sickening and relentless attack on the defenceless dog in Beith, Ayrshire on May 16 this year, and then tried to blame two 11 year olds before escaping from police

When she was later apprehended, the Latvian national was found to be carrying ‘an assortment of kitchen knives’ and told the police officers that their daughters were ‘getting raped and stabbed’

The 40 year old appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court for sentencing earlier today after previously pleading guilty to four charges

Cernevica admitted two charges of behaving in a threatening manner, another of knife possession and causing a dog unnecessary suffering

The court heard how Cernevica, of Kilbirnie, had been spotted by children playing at the skate park nearby repeatedly hitting the pup before “kicking biting and stamping on it” in the horrific attack in Orr’s Trust Public Park in Beith.

Prosecutor Amber Feeney told the court the warped woman had then “seized it by the collar,” before “swinging it over a fence, dragging it across the ground and throwing it to the ground.”

Ms Feeney said the evil woman was seen by an 11-year-old girl attacking the dog.

She said: “She was repeatedly grabbing the dog and throwing it to the ground. She brutally kicked and stamped on the dog. She even bit the dog.

“She then picked up the dog and threw it from a height over a barbed wire fence on to the ground. The dog was squealing and shaking.”

Despite it being broad daylight and the park being busy with children, dog walkers, and cyclists, Cernervica then straddled the pup, pinned it to the ground and strangled it until it died.

The attack was also witnessed by another 11-year-old child, who said he saw Cernevica assault the dog.

Ms Feeney said: “He observed the accused hitting, biting and throwing the dog to the ground and trying to strangle it. The dog was making whelping noises.”

The second dog she had tied up while attacking the first dog managed to escape and run off

The horrific act came to light when crazed Cernevica called the police herself trying to claim that children in the park had killed it.

Ms Feeney added: “Police found her wearing blood-soaked shorts and a crop top and she was heavily intoxicated. She was shouting that her dog was dead and claiming that children had chased and killed her dog.”

However after speaking to the child witnesses police quickly realised Cernevica had been responsible – but not before she ran off, managing to escape police custody.

Officers then searched the beauty spot shortly afterwards and found the stricken pup dead with blood around its muzzle and flank.

Cernevica was traced and arrested at around 7:20pm that same day and was found to be carrying five knives on her.

Cernevica was also convicted of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by shouting, swearing and uttering abusive remarks before kicking the wall of a police van once she was arrested.

Ms Feeney said police found a bread knife in her back pack and “two large knives in the waist band of her shorts and she was shouting “f*****g women beaters, f*****g dog killers”.

Cernevica then shouted at officers “Your daughters are getting r***d, your daughters are getting stabbed,” before cops found another two knives belonging to her on the floor of the police van.

Earlier that afternoon, police had been called to a disturbance at Cernevica’s home

The court heard she shouted abuse at neighbours, including insults about a baby including swearing towards the mother, saying “f**king your baby”

Her partner came outside and Cernevica then directed abuse at him.

She then smashed her own window using a heavy ornament before climbing inside and leaving the property with her dogs.

She was sentenced to three years and banned from owning animals for life.
