Chesterfield Man Charged with GBH After Two-Year-Old Hospitalised with Head Injury
A Chesterfield man has been charged with grievous bodily harm (GBH) following an incident in which a two-year-old child was hospitalised with a serious head injury.
Aidan Martin, 22, of North Side, New Tupton, was arrested after police were called to reports of a child being taken to Chesterfield Royal Hospital with a severe head injury at around 4:05pm on September 14.
The child was later confirmed to be two years old, and medical staff described the injury as “serious.”
Martin appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on September 16, where he entered no plea to the GBH charge. He was initially granted bail but was subsequently remanded into custody for breaching bail conditions.
He is due to appear at Derby Crown Court on October 14 for a plea hearing.
A 29-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the assault of a child. She was released on police bail pending further enquiries, according to a police spokesperson.
Police confirmed that enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
