Charged with Dozens of Serious Sexual Offences

A man accused of committing a series of serious sexual offences against his former wife has been publicly identified for the first time.

Philip Young, 49, formerly of Swindon and now living in Enfield, has been charged with 56 separate offences, including multiple counts of rape, administering a substance with intent to overpower or stupefy, voyeurism, and possession of indecent images of children and extreme images.

The complainant, Joanne Young, 48, has waived her legal right to anonymity. The allegations relate to incidents said to have occurred over a 13-year period, between 2010 and 2023.

Young has been remanded into custody and is due to appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on December 23.

Alongside Young, five additional men have also been charged with offences connected to the case:
• Norman Macksoni, 47, of Sharnbrook – charged with rape and possession of extreme images.
• Dean Hamilton, 47, of no fixed address – charged with rape, sexual assault by penetration, and sexual touching.
• Connor Sanderson Doyle, 31, of Swindon – charged with sexual assault by penetration and sexual touching.
• Richard Wilkins, 61, of Swindon – charged with rape and sexual touching.
• Mohammed Hassan, 37, of Swindon – charged with sexual touching.

The five men have been released on bail and are set to appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court alongside Young. All six are accused of offences that allegedly took place over the same timeframe.

Detective Superintendent Geoff Smith described the development as a “significant update” in a complex and lengthy investigation, and confirmed that the complainant has been supported throughout by specialist officers.

A Crown Prosecution Service spokesperson stated that prosecutors had determined there was sufficient evidence to bring charges and that pursuing criminal proceedings was in the public interest.

Police are appealing for anyone with information regarding the case to contact 101, quoting reference 54240080286, or report online via the Wiltshire Police website. Anonymous reports can also be made through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
