A Norwich binman has been placed on the sex offenders’ register after being caught on CCTV exposing himself and masturbating.

Ashley Mason, 53, admitted indecent acts on the doorstep of his own property at Ivory Road on a number of occasions in June and July.

Norwich Magistrates’ Court was told video footage had been sent to police.

The bin lorry driver’s actions could have been easily seen from the footpath by anyone walking past, said prosecutors.

Mason has been sentenced to a 12 month community order including 80 hours unpaid work and 35 rehabilitation days after he pleaded guilty to intentionally exposing his genitals with the intention to cause alarm or distress.

He was made subject of sex offender notification requirements.

He had initially been charged with outraging public decency but admitted the alternative offence after the court was told it could not be proved anyone had seen him.

When questioned Mason was unable to recall the offences but had been drinking up to 80 cans of alcohol a week and had been going through “something of a breakdown” at the time.
