Nicholas O’Connor – Swansea

A football club chairman who exposed himself and sexually assaulted multiple women has been locked up and put on the sex offenders register for 10 years.

A judge told Nicholas O’Connor he had engaged in “purposeful, deviant sexual conduct” and made himself “a sexual nuisance to women”.

Swansea Crown Court heard O’Connor’s sexual offending was carried out in various locations in Swansea, Carmarthenshire, and Merthyr during 2024.

The 35-year-old…..

– exposed himself to a woman and sexually assaulted her at a wedding venue in Carmarthenshire;

– tried to kiss a woman in Murton, Gower;

– exposed his penis to a woman and sexually touched her at a sports venue in Morriston;

– exposed himself to women working in a shop on Merthyr High Street;

– exposed himself to a young woman walking in a street in Morriston;

– exposed himself to a woman in the car park of the Asda supermarket on Swansea Enterprise Zone;

– exposed himself to a woman in the car park of a One Stop shop in Morriston.

At the time of the offending the defendant was chairman of Swansea’s Plough Colts FC but now has no association with the club.

O’Connor had denied the offending, saying the sexual assaults did not happen and that he at no time intentionally exposed himself sexually to women, but accepted he may have been scratching his groin area due to what he referred to as his “problem down below”.

Nicholas Wynford Keith O’Connor, formerly of Caryl Terrace, Plasmarl, Swansea, but now of Waun Fawr, Cwmrhydyceirw, Swansea, had previously been convicted at trial of 12 counts of sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, and exposure when he returned to the dock for sentencing.

He was previously given a fixed penalty notice for engaging in “lewd and provocative behaviour” at the window of a kebab shop in full view of the customers inside.

Judge Huw Rees said O’Connor had been convicted at trial of 12 offences on what, in his view, was “certain and compelling evidence”.

He said the “indiscriminate choice of victim”, the lack of rationality in O’Connor’s behaviour, and the multiplicity of offences and locations were all concerning, and he described the defendant’s behaviour as “a course of purposeful, deviant sexual conduct”.

The judge said having presided over the trial, he had come to the conclusion that O’Connor was a “self-centred individual” who had made himself “a sexual nuisance to women”.

O’Connor was sentenced to a total of two years in prison. He will serve up to half the sentence in custody before being released on licence to serve the remainder in the community. He will be a registered sex offender for the next 10 years.
