📝 Case Summary:

Thomas Holford, 25, was found guilty of murdering his five-week-old daughter, Everleigh Stroud, after violently shaking her in April 2021 while they were alone in a bedroom he shared with her 16-year-old mother.

On the night of the assault, Holford smoked at least five joints of cannabis and later claimed he had no memory of what had happened. The infant suffered catastrophic injuries, including trauma to the brain, broken ribs, and leg fractures. She was placed on life support but sadly died a year later when the machines were turned off.

Holford showed little emotion throughout the ordeal. When police arrived, he continued playing games on his phone and even asked officers to help him choose a game while his daughter was fighting for her life in hospital.

In court, Holford attempted to deflect blame, claiming forgetfulness and confusion. But the prosecution highlighted his dishonesty and lack of remorse, pointing out that he knowingly inflicted harm severe enough to kill.

The court heard harrowing details of the baby’s suffering, and investigators described Holford as having shown no planning or motive — only brutal, reckless violence while under the influence of drugs. A jury at Canterbury Crown Court found him guilty of murder and ABH. He awaits a significant custodial sentence.
