Jailed in 2022 for raping an elderly woman
In May 2022, 23-year-old Kyle McKenzie was sentenced to 11 years in prison after admitting to the rape of an 83-year-old woman in her home in Glenrothes, Fife.
The incident occurred on 25 June 2020, when McKenzie broke into the woman’s property and subjected her to a severe and traumatic assault. He later entered a guilty plea on 16 November 2021, and was sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh on 13 May 2022.
Detective Inspector Darren Stewart, the senior investigating officer, described McKenzie as a dangerous and opportunistic offender. He highlighted that the attack took place in the victim’s own home — the place she should have felt safest — and that McKenzie had shown no remorse when he was initially charged.
Police Scotland carried out a large-scale investigation which ultimately identified McKenzie as the perpetrator. DI Stewart thanked members of the public and partner agencies for their assistance, especially those who supported the victim throughout the process.
He added that Police Scotland treats all reports of sexual crime with the utmost seriousness and is committed to ensuring offenders like McKenzie are brought to justice.
