A violent sex offender has been jailed for three decades after he raped and tried to kill a woman by stabbing her multiple times.

Gurwinder Singh, 36, subjected his victim to years of physical and psychological abuse.

Singh began his campaign of abuse by verbally insulting and degrading the woman – before physically assaulting and stalking her.

On May 6 last year, he attempted to murder the woman when he stabbed her several times.

He forced his way into her address with a knife and threatened to kill her. She was then stabbed by Singh multiple times to her arm, chest and stomach.

Her attacker then proceeded to undress and rape her and repeatedly threatened to kill her.

Police arrested Singh shortly afterwards on suspicion of a number of offences including attempted murder and rape.

Singh, from Walsall, was found guilty following a trial earlier this year and he appeared at Stafford Crown Court this week for sentencing.

The court heard it was ‘only a matter of millimetres’ and luck that Singh didn’t kill her.
