Hull man jailed after repeated assaults on ex-partner
A 21-year-old man from Hull has been jailed following a series of assaults against his former partner.
According to reports, Leo Genter and the woman were in a relationship from September 2021. She stated that the first incident of abuse occurred on Boxing Day 2021, although she said early warning signs had appeared in December. Believing he was remorseful, the couple briefly resumed their relationship.
The most serious incident reportedly took place after she returned from a night out. She claimed that Genter started an argument, threatened her, and physically attacked her in their flat. According to her account, he ran at her, used her hands to strike himself, and then tackled her onto the bed, strangling her for around 10–15 seconds before punching her and covering her mouth to prevent her from screaming.
She said that after Genter left the flat, he returned through a window and demanded she hand him knives, threatening her life. Fearing for her safety, she said she contacted a friend and the police. She handed him two knives to prevent further escalation before he left the property again.
Genter was later sentenced to 18 months in prison, with 7 months to be served for good behaviour, in connection with the assaults.
Authorities said the measures were intended to protect the victim and ensure that he complied with court orders.
