Man Found Guilty of Domestic Violence and Harassment

A man has been found guilty of domestic violence and harassment following a sustained campaign of abuse involving violent assaults, threats, and intimidation.

The court heard that the offender physically attacked a woman, including headbutting her in the face, and repeatedly appeared at her home uninvited while her young children were present.

Evidence presented included threatening voice messages in which the offender claimed he would tie up and torture the woman and her two children, stating that he would “happily do 30 years” for doing so.

Additional allegations of criminal damage and further threats were originally part of the case but were later withdrawn due to evidential disputes. Two other counts proceeded to conviction.

It was revealed during the proceedings that a Clare’s Law disclosure confirmed the offender’s previous involvement in incidents of domestic abuse. Reports indicated a pattern of coercive and manipulative behaviour, particularly towards single women and mothers, whom he targeted with financial and emotional control.

The offender was also found to have threatened to report the victim to social services after she refused to provide him with money to settle drug-related debts. Similar conduct had been described by a previous partner, who was left in financial difficulty after experiencing comparable behaviour.

During the investigation, it was noted that the offender attempted to gain sympathy by claiming to be suicidal and remorseful in order to avoid accountability. The case also involved interference from a family member, who was alleged to have provided a false statement in support of the offender.

Following court proceedings, the defendant was convicted and held responsible for his actions. The outcome has been described as a significant step in addressing persistent domestic abuse and harassment.
