Whitehaven man sentenced for assault
A man from Whitehaven has been sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court for an assault that took place at a caravan park.
Mark Anthony Harris appeared before the court on 27 June 2025, where he was convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, contrary to section 47 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.
The court heard that during the incident, Harris dragged a woman from the doorway of his caravan onto a gravel road, pulling out part of her hair in the process. The attack was witnessed by caravan owners, holidaymakers, and site security, who intervened to stop the assault. Harris was subsequently removed from the site.
Judge’s sentencing details confirmed that Harris received 12 months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years. During this period, he must complete 20 rehabilitation activity days and perform 150 hours of unpaid work.
A restraining order was also issued, prohibiting Harris from contacting the victim directly or indirectly and from entering her address. The order will remain in force until 27 June 2028.
The defendant was also ordered to pay a statutory surcharge.
