Blackpool Man Jailed for Strangulation and Assault of Partner

Preston, Lancashire – A Blackpool man has been jailed for a series of violent attacks on his former partner, including an incident of non‑fatal strangulation that left her with significant injuries.

Samuel Haughton appeared at Preston Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to one count of non‑fatal strangulation and assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH).

The court heard that the assaults took place on multiple occasions and involved sustained physical violence. The victim suffered bruising to her body and face, injuries to her throat, and dental damage after one attack in which several of her teeth were broken.

Haughton initially denied the allegations, entering a plea of not guilty. However, on the first day of his trial, he changed his plea to guilty after discussions between his defence team and the prosecution.

On 22 September 2025, Judge sentenced Haughton to 29 months in prison. He was also made subject to a five‑year restraining order, prohibiting any contact with the victim.

The case had been adjourned earlier in the year to allow for the preparation of reports to assist the court in determining the appropriate sentence.
