Perth Man Jailed After Making Vile Threats to Police Officers
Perth, Scotland – A man who made grotesque and abusive threats to police officers, including disturbing comments involving a deceased relative, has been jailed for nearly two years.
Steven Gow, from Perth, was sentenced to 21 months in prison after the court heard that he spat at officers and made graphic threats, including saying he would exhume and sexually assault one officer’s late grandmother. The incident occurred while Gow was in police custody.
According to reports, Gow had been arrested and taken into custody when he began launching verbal attacks at the police. He claimed to have COVID-19 and spat at multiple officers, intentionally putting their health at risk. His abuse escalated to horrifying threats, deeply upsetting those involved.
Prosecutors described the threats as “profoundly offensive” and said they had a traumatic impact on the officers targeted. The court noted that threatening emergency workers with violence—particularly threats involving dead relatives—was beyond the bounds of acceptable behaviour.
Presiding over the case, Sheriff William Wood called Gow’s actions “utterly reprehensible” and “beyond comprehension.” He also commented on the growing risks faced by police officers when dealing with abusive or violent individuals.
The sentence reflects the seriousness of Gow’s actions. The sheriff made it clear that such behaviour toward emergency service workers would not be tolerated and would be met with firm custodial punishment.
