Mario Francis Crown – Hampshire

A violent domestic abuser from Hampshire who punched and strangled his former partner, cut up her shoes and smashed her phone has been jailed for four and a half years.

Mario Francis Crown, 35, subjected the woman to a relentless campaign of violence and control — then continued targeting her after she ended the relationship.

Portsmouth Crown Court heard that Crown tried to restrict her movements and prevent her from contacting other people.

He cut up her shoes to stop her leaving the house and broke her phone to cut off communication.

His destructive behaviour extended to televisions and doors. He also slashed her bicycle tyres and scribbled over the pages of her passport.

Alongside the damage to her belongings, Crown punched and strangled her during the campaign of domestic abuse.

When the woman ended the relationship in March, the intimidation continued. Crown sent abusive messages, threatened to burn down her Farnham home and broke into the property in Fareham.

Crown, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behaviour and burglary.

He was sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court on September 14 to 54 months in prison.

The court also imposed a five-year restraining order.

His offending combined physical violence with deliberate attempts to restrict the woman’s freedom, damage her means of communication and intimidate her even after the relationship was over.
