Plymouth man was jailed in 2021 after grooming vulnerable schoolgirl with gifts and money before arranging sex

A Plymouth man was jailed for three years after grooming a vulnerable schoolgirl with gifts and money before sexually exploiting her over the course of a year.

Logan Peachey, from Plymouth, was sentenced in 2021 after being convicted of five child sexual offences following a four-day trial.

The court heard how Peachey targeted the schoolgirl and used gifts and money while grooming and exploiting her.

Over the course of around a year, he persuaded the child to perform sexual acts and also arranged to meet her for sexual intercourse.

Peachey denied the offences and the case proceeded to trial.

However, after hearing the evidence against him, the jury rejected his denials and returned unanimous guilty verdicts on all five counts.

The case demonstrated how gifts, money and attention can be used as part of the grooming process to gain influence over a vulnerable child before escalating into sexual exploitation.

Sarah’s Law

Parents, carers and guardians who are concerned about somebody with access to a child can make an application under the Child Sex Offender Disclosure Scheme, commonly known as Sarah’s Law.

The scheme allows people to ask police whether an individual poses a known sexual risk to children.
