A highly dangerous paedophile who groomed and sexually abused a ‘very young’ child in Jersey has been handed a life sentence.

Aaron Roy Forsythe Gardner was convicted of three serious sexual offences—including the rape of a child—following a five-day trial in June 2026.

The court heard that Gardner remains a “serious, significant risk” to children and had constructed a “carefully crafted narrative” in a desperate attempt to portray himself as innocent.

But his story collapsed under scrutiny.

Commissioner Patricia Lees sentenced Gardner to life imprisonment and ordered that he must serve a minimum of 14 years, minus the time he has already spent in custody, before he can even be considered for release.

For most of the sentencing hearing, Gardner kept his head bowed and refused to look towards the victim’s family.

The judge branded him a “highly dangerous sexual offender” who poses a grave risk to young children. She said Gardner had never accepted responsibility for his sickening crimes and had shown no desire to address his risk of offending again.

His abuse inflicted “severe psychological harm” on the child and devastated the victim’s family, the court heard.

The horrifying truth began to emerge when the young child made troubling comments during toilet training.

The victim later disclosed graphic details to their parents, explaining how Gardner had repeatedly touched them inappropriately and forced them to endure “bad things” they did not want to do.

Gardner’s calculated web of grooming, abuse and denial ultimately unravelled—leaving him facing a life sentence for the appalling damage he inflicted on a defenceless child.
