Javed Iqbal – Birmingham

A man who travelled to Widnes to meet up with who he thought was a 14-year-old boy has been jailed.

Javed Iqbal, of Castleton Road, Birmingham, was sentenced to five years in prison after appearing at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday 27 August 2026.

The 49-year-old had been found guilty of arranging the commission of an offence of sexual activity with a child and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

On 28 August 2024, Iqbal began speaking online with who he believed to be a 14-year-old boy, but this was in fact an adult posing as a child.

The ‘child’ clearly informed Iqbal that he was 14 years old and Iqbal continued to send sexualised messages, including an explicit image, and asked the child for images of himself.

Iqbal then arranged to meet the child in Widnes and travelled to the area on 7 September 2024. Cheshire Police was made aware and officers attended and arrested him.
