GOLF INSTRUCTOR JAILED FOR 19 YEARS FOR GROOMING AND SEXUALLY ABUSING TEENAGE GIRL

A golf instructor who groomed and sexually abused a teenage girl over a two-year period in East Sussex has been jailed for 19 years after being convicted of 11 sexual offences.

George Scott, 39, of Beacon Road, Crowborough, was found guilty following a trial and appeared at Lewes Crown Court on 31 July 2026 for sentencing.

The court heard that the non-recent offences were connected to Scott’s activities as a golf instructor and involved a girl who was under the age of 16.

Sussex Police said Scott groomed the victim and abused the position of trust he held before committing sexual offences against her over approximately two years.

The victim cannot be identified because victims of sexual offences are entitled to lifelong legal anonymity.

CONVICTED OF 11 OFFENCES

Scott was convicted of:

* Eight counts of sexual assault by penetration
* One count of intentionally causing a girl under 16 to engage in non-penetrative sexual activity
* One count of causing a girl under 16 to watch a third person engaging in sexual activity
* One count of being an adult in a position of trust who sexually touched a girl under 18 on multiple occasions

Following his convictions, Scott received a 19-year prison sentence with an additional two years on licence as part of an extended sentence.

He must serve at least two-thirds of his custodial sentence before he can be considered for parole.

The court also imposed a 25-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which will restrict Scott’s unsupervised contact with children and his access to computers or mobile phones without permission.

He was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

Scott was additionally made subject to a restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim. The order will remain in force until a further order of the court.

“DEVASTATING AND LIFELONG IMPACT”

In a victim impact statement, the woman described the lasting consequences of the abuse.

She said:

“I continue to fight everyday against the memories I wish I could forget.

“This has had a devastating and lifelong impact. I have lived with the consequences with flashbacks and intrusive memories. I often felt blamed and shamed for something that was never my fault.”

POLICE PRAISE VICTIM’S COURAGE

Detective Inspector Mors Lambert praised the victim for coming forward and reporting what had happened to Sussex Police.

He said:

“I commend the courage of the victim for coming forward and reporting her experience to Sussex Police in this highly distressing case.”

DI Lambert said Scott had groomed the victim and abused the trust she should have been able to place in him through his role.

He added:

“This was a complex investigation and we take reports of rape and serious sexual assaults extremely seriously. We were determined to get justice for the victim in this case.”

Police said the sentence reflected both the seriousness of Scott’s offending and the profound impact it had upon the victim.

DI Lambert continued:

“Scott is now serving a significant custodial sentence which reflects the severity of his offences as well as the profound impact it has had upon the victim.”

Sussex Police has encouraged anyone who has experienced rape or sexual assault to report it, including people affected by offences committed many years ago.

Scott is now serving his 19-year custodial sentence and will remain subject to extensive restrictions following his eventual release.
