Domestic abuser jailed as court imposes indefinite restraining order to protect former partner

Christopher Chaffer, 26, of 16th Avenue, north Hull, has been jailed after assaulting his former partner.

Appearing before Hull Crown Court, Chaffer was sentenced to 26 weeks’ imprisonment after being convicted of assault by beating.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed an indefinite restraining order, prohibiting him from contacting or approaching his former partner. He was also ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.

The indefinite restraining order reflects the court’s decision that ongoing protection for the victim was necessary beyond the completion of his prison sentence.

If you or someone you know is considering a relationship with Christopher Chaffer, you can make a Clare’s Law (Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme) application through your local police force to find out whether a partner has a history of domestic abuse that may put you at risk.
