May 2026 – Jealous Abuser Jailed After Campaign Of Threats And Violence Against Ex-Partner

A jealous abuser who threatened to petrol bomb his ex-partner’s home and subjected her to a campaign of controlling and violent behaviour has been jailed.

Jamie Storey, 32, of Oakerside Drive, Peterlee, was convicted at Teesside Crown Court of controlling and coercive behaviour, assault by beating, and threatening to destroy or damage property.

The court heard Storey became obsessively jealous during the relationship, repeatedly accusing his partner of sleeping with other men while verbally abusing and intimidating her.

Prosecutors told the court the victim’s life and mental well-being went into a “downward spiral” during the relationship, leaving her living in fear and suffering severe anxiety.

The victim said Storey would regularly grab her and throw her around rooms during arguments. He also spat in her face following an incident in her garden where he pushed her around.

She told police she feared for her life and was terrified of what he was capable of doing.

The court heard Storey repeatedly insulted and degraded the woman, calling her offensive names and making threats to kill her. He also threatened to petrol bomb her home and damage her property following the breakdown of the relationship.

On the day the final threats were made, a window at the victim’s property was smashed and figures with covered faces were reportedly seen outside the home. However, prosecutors said it could not be proven Storey was directly involved in that attack.

Teesside Crown Court also heard Storey had a previous conviction involving violence towards another partner, for which he received a 21-month prison sentence in March 2022.

During sentencing, Recorder Jeremy Hill-Baker said the relationship had been dominated by jealousy, abuse and intimidation.

The judge told Storey:

“You assaulted her by putting her up against a wall, made threats to kill her, made offensive remarks about her, spat in her face, threatened to damage her home and petrol bomb her house.”

The court heard Storey admitted a further charge relating to threats to damage property on the eve of trial.

His defence claimed he had been exposed to domestic violence during his youth and had shown “a degree of insight” into his behaviour. The court was also told he intended to move away from the area where his ex-partner lives upon release from prison.

Storey appeared at sentencing via video link from Holme House Prison in Stockton.

He was jailed for 30 months and handed a restraining order banning him from approaching or contacting the victim for ten years.

The sentencing judge said Storey’s actions had caused lasting emotional harm and fear over a sustained period of abuse.
