A former carer who brutally abused and killed a dog in front of children at a park has been permanently struck off from the profession.

Aija Cernevica, 30, from Kilbirnie in North Ayrshire, is currently serving a three-year prison sentence for the horrific attack. The incident shocked witnesses after the dog, which was in her care, was repeatedly beaten, kicked, and fatally strangled in public.

A hearing was told the animal was subjected to prolonged cruelty before dying at the scene, leaving children and onlookers traumatised by what they witnessed. It was also revealed Cernevica was carrying several blades during the attack.

The Scottish Social Services Council has now ruled that she is banned from working in care services.

Animal cruelty has no place in society.
