A 33-year-old convicted domestic abuser from Devon has been jailed for inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Jamie Bayliss, of Beechfield Road, Fremington, was caught after the discovery of sexually explicit messages detailing what he would like to do to her.

He tried to lie his way out of the trouble and delete his chat history, Exeter Crown Court heard.

Police were alerted after highly sexualised messages sent by Bayliss were found on the girl’s phone. The child was 14 at the time.

Bayliss spoke enthusiastically about dominating the girl, tying her up and being called ‘Sir’. Some of the messages showed Bayliss eager to meet in secret.

He initially lied to police and said he wasn’t sexually interested in the girl. He eventually pleaded guilty to causing or inciting a child to engage in penetrative sexual activity.

Bayliss, who also admitted having Category A images of a child on his phone.

Judge Evans was told the defendant has previous for ABH and perverting the course of justice.

The ABH relates to attacking an ex partner in her own house, where he strangled, kicked and headbutted her. A child was left terrified in the next room.

That wasn’t the first time he had attacked her and at the time was banned from any communication by a restraining order and subject to a suspended sentence.

Judge David Evans jailed him for two years and four months.

He was put on the sex offender register for 10 years.
