An arrogant bully has avoided prison after almost killing a six week old baby by shaking and striking the child.

Reece Twycross, 29 of Sunderland was physically, emotionally, and psychologically abusive towards his then partner and her young children.

On the 5th January, Sunderland Crown Court was told that Twycross had grabbed the six week old baby by the neck in a fit of rage before shaking and striking the tiny baby. He showed total disregard to any injuries the baby may of suffered and instead blamed the child for his actions.

Miraculously, the baby survived with no longer term injuries.

The abuse was relentless. He would scream and swear in the faces of the baby, his one year old sister and the mother, telling them that he would throw them down the stairs if they dared to disobey him.

He took pleasure in repeatedly pinching, shaking and smacking the children leaving marks on their bodies.

Sadistic Twycross would demand that the one year old girl must stand in a corner in silence for prolonged periods of time.

He created a atmosphere of fear, by using threats and intimidation, and was only happy if he felt he was in total control.

His violence, and mental torture resulted in the long term impact of the emotional state of the children and the mother.

When the mother of the children found the strength to break free from him, he threatened to smash the windows of the house and to kidnap the children

Despite the extent of the violence and abuse, remorseless Twycross walked free from court with an 18 month suspended sentence
