❌TANAYA JADE ROBINS – TORQUAY❌
Tanaya Jade Robins, 26, of Warren Hill, Torquay, has been banned from keeping animals for 10 years after being found guilty of serious animal welfare offences following an RSPCA investigation. The ban cannot be appealed for seven years.
Robins was convicted in her absence after failing to attend court hearings. She was sentenced at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court, where she was also ordered to pay £600 in costs.
The case followed an incident on 23 March 2024, when RSPCA officers were called to a property on Temperance Street, Torquay, after reports that one dog had killed another inside the flat. Officers attended alongside police.
Upon entry, rescuers discovered extreme neglect and unsanitary living conditions affecting multiple animals. In total, five dogs and eight cats were found inside the property.
In a written statement, RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer Stephen Findlow described an overwhelming smell of ammonia, urine and faeces before even entering the flat. Inside, dogs were found confined in cages and rooms, while cats attempted to hide among the clutter.
Large amounts of fresh and old faeces were scattered across the floors, with some trodden into carpets. Litter trays were overflowing, with waste spilling onto the floor. Mouldy faecal matter was also present. One distressed cat was observed trying to hide on a scratching post, which appeared to be the only relatively clean area.
A Belgian Malinois was found confined in a crate beside a cluttered bed. Two Huskies were discovered barricaded inside an upstairs room, barking and visibly distressed, with faeces scattered across the floor. An XL Bully-type dog was also found locked alone in another room.
Officers noted there was no accessible food for the animals within the property.
All animals were seized by police and placed into the care of the RSPCA, where they received veterinary assessment and ongoing care.
Robins was convicted of failing to meet the welfare needs of the animals between 8 February 2024 and 23 March 2024, contrary to Section 9(1) of the Animal Welfare Act 2006. The court found she failed to provide:
• A suitable living environment
• Continuous access to clean, fresh drinking water
• Conditions allowing normal behaviour patterns
• Protection from pain, suffering, injury or disease
• Appropriate housing arrangements with or apart from other animals
The court determined that the animals were subjected to unnecessary suffering due to prolonged neglect.
As a result of the conviction, Robins is prohibited from owning, keeping or caring for animals for a decade.
